Our Story

Cunas de Esperanza – Thomas Cradles of Hope began after a young baby was abandoned at a hospital and placed in a group home. Unfortunately, the group home could not provide quality care. As a result, two employees of the home—President Joselyn and her husband, Alexis—took the baby into their own home. They named him Thomas, after a volunteer who was deeply passionate about improving conditions at the group home.

Thomas had experienced abuse while in his mother’s womb; she was an alcoholic, which impacted his development. He has since been diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

Later, a second child named Silas came into the couple’s care. Despite their efforts, they already had two other children—an infant and a preteen—along with Thomas. The demands of caring for Silas became overwhelming, and they made the heartbreaking decision to return him to social services to find another home. It was in that painful moment that Joselyn realized her true calling: to care for the babies chosen by God.

Together with two others, Valentia and Thomas, Joselyn went on to form Cunas de Esperanza – Thomas Cradles of Hope.
